Customs Clearance

Clearing shipments through customs has never been more complex.  When dealing with customs requirements, universities are considered to be the most multifaceted entities due to the varied programs of study and wide range of goods imported and exported.

As the Importer of Record, UBC is responsible for the customs compliance and clearance of goods crossing the Canadian border.  All shipments consigned to UBC are reported to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

UBC is dedicated to supporting and providing knowledgeable answers to complex questions and problems that may arise when faculty and staff members move goods across international borders.

UBC’s customs broker Livingston International holds Power of Attorney to clear customs shipments, prepare customs documentation and pay duties and taxes on behalf of UBC.  Livingston has partnered with UBC Supply Management to ensure UBC’s shipments are cleared and released according to regulatory requirements.  Livingston continually works with UBC to uncover opportunities to reduce duties, manage best practices to avoid penalties and reduce compliance risks.
